Garage Insulation

Garage Insulation In Leamington, Ontario

Most calls about a cold garage in Leamington are really calls about something attached to it. The bedroom above it, or the kitchen wall it shares with the house.

Spray foam handles a garage well because a garage is full of the awkward shapes batts never fit properly. Headers, ledges, the gap where the ceiling meets the exterior wall.

Garage Insulation details

The Wall Between The Garage And The House

This is the wall that matters most and it is the one usually done worst.

It is not only a comfort issue. That wall separates living space from a room where a vehicle runs, fuel gets stored and chemicals sit on a shelf. It needs to be sealed as an air barrier, not just filled.

Closed cell foam across that wall stops the air movement in both directions. It is generally the highest value part of a garage quote and it is the part we will push hardest for.

The Ceiling And The Room Above It

If there is a bedroom or bonus room over the garage, the floor of that room is the coldest floor in the house every February. It has unheated space beneath it and usually not much between them.

Closed cell in the garage ceiling joists, taken right out to the exterior wall and into the rim, fixes the floor above far more reliably than adding heat to the room.

The Header Above The Overhead Door

Look at the framing above your garage door. In a lot of houses there is a large header there with almost nothing in it, opening straight onto the outdoors.

It is a small area and it takes very little foam, but it is often the single biggest hole in the building. We do it as a matter of course on any garage job.

Detached Shops And Outbuildings

A detached shop is a different problem. You are trying to hold a temperature rather than take the edge off, so the roof deck and the walls get treated together and the door seals matter as much as the insulation.

Around Leamington a lot of these are older pole-frame or block buildings being converted to workshops or storage. They are very doable and they are usually cheaper than people expect once the building is emptied out.

Get The Garage Quoted

Tell us whether there is a room above it, whether it is attached, and what you use it for. That is most of what we need to give you a real number. Garage work is just one item on the list — see the rest on the Leamington Spray Foam Insulation home page.

What We Install

Other Work We Take On

We work on houses, garages, crawl spaces, new builds, greenhouse sites and farm buildings throughout the south of Essex County.

Attic Insulation

An attic is the cheapest comfort you can buy in most Leamington houses, and it is usually the first thing we look at. Warm indoor air rises, finds every gap in the ceiling, and takes moisture with it on the way out.

Basement Insulation

Closed cell spray foam applied straight onto the foundation wall does three jobs at once. It insulates, it seals the air, and at the right thickness it is its own vapour control layer.

Insulation Removal

Insulation does not last forever, and in a damp climate it often does not last as long as people expect. When the existing material is wet, mouldy, rodent damaged or flattened, it has to come out before anything new goes in.
